Name of era: Kingdom of Greece

Era type: period

Ever since the Classic Age, Greece has been ruled by Romans, then Ottoman. The national identity, art, language, and religion was lost. The start of the Ottoman Empire is linked to the Renaissance period, where ancient Greek arts and literature circulated back to Europe. In 1832, Greeks fought for independence within the Ottoman Empire and won national unity for the first time in roughly 1800 years. This era also saw advanced technology and camera, making many classic Greek arts available for the first time to large world audience. The convention of London in 1832 set up national borders. The country started with monarchy rule and switched to republic state briefly before reverting back to monarchy.
